If you had “novel adaptation of a notoriously awful ’90s video game” on your bingo card, you’re one step closer to a row. Limited Run Games has revealed a book version of Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties–the critically lambasted adventure game for PC and 3DO.
The novel will be penned by Mike Drucker, who garnered an Emmy nomination for his contributions to Bill Nye Saves The World and Full Frontal With Samantha Bee. However, this won’t be his first venture into the realm of video games, as he previously disclosed his involvement with the localization team for Kid Icarus: Uprising.
Have you ever desired to peruse Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties? You have? Oh, that’s rather peculiar—but brace yourself for some exciting news. Emmy-nominated television writer and comedian @MikeDrucker & @PressRunBooks have joined forces to publish an official novelization of this 3DO masterpiece.

The book will recount the complete tale of the 1993 release, which revolves around two unmarried individuals, John–the plumber who is literally depicted wearing a tie on the game’s cover–and Jane, as they face societal pressure to find love. The game has gained notoriety for being one of the worst of all time, due to what a previous GameSpot compilation referred to as “amateurish acting, photography, and bizarre sensual choices packaged in a manner that’s as erotic as doing your taxes.”
The novel will coincide with a physical and digital re-release of the game by Limited Run Games on all major gaming platforms and PC. The updated version will include 4K resolution for all in-game images, behind-the-scenes commentary, and an interview with Jeanne Basone, the actress who portrayed Jane.
The re-release of Plumber Don’t Wear Ties is set to launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Preorders will be accessible on the Limited Run website from September 22 to October 22.
